THE METAL FIGURES

Manufacturers’ Designation and Number of Poses:

The metal figures come from WarModelling’s World War Two range. They are part of set WW22, titled “German Fallschirmjägers (CRETE)”. This is a boxed set with 22 figures in unique poses, plus a small mortar.

Figure Characteristics:

Height (measured from sole of foot to eyes): 21mm.
Body Build (from 5 categories): C (Average).

THE PLASTIC FIGURES

Manufacturers’ Designation and Number of Poses:

The Matchbox figures come from three different sets: the green figure on the left is from box P5006 “British Commandos”; the blue-gray figure in the centre is from box P5003 “German Infantry”; and the brown figure to the right is from box P5001 “British Infantry.”

The British Infantry and German box each includes 49 figures in 17 poses, plus a mortar. The Commando box has 46 figures in 19 poses, as well as a rubber dinghy and a couple of ladders.

Availability and Cost:

Matchbox no longer produces these sets. Used figures can be found on eBay or similar places. Complete boxes also come up occasionally, but they sell for high premiums to collectors.

The Revell figures come from box 02513 “WW2 Africa Corps.” This box includes 50 figures in 12 poses.

Availability and Cost:

This set is not currently listed as being in production at Revell, and in fact a different Afrika Korps set is now listed by the company, which is a remake of the former Esci set. However, boxes and used figures from this set can still be found online and at some local hobby shops. For instance, as of the present date, there is a box selling on eBay with a “Buy it Now” price of $6.50 US.

The plastic figures were originally released by Esci as set 201“World War Two German Soldiers.” The box included 50 figures in 15 poses.

The set was reissued by Italeri as set 6033, “German Infantry, Panzergrenadiere.”

Figure Characteristics:

Body Build (from 5 categories): C (Average).

Availability and Cost:

Italeri continues to produce these figures, and they can be found easily in hobby shops. For instance, Netmerchants sells them for £5.39.

The two paratroop figures (on the left and in the middle) come from box A01753 “WWII German Paratroops.” This set was also released by Heller as 79653 “German Paratroops”

The box includes 46 figures in 14 poses.

The infantry figure (on the right) comes from box A01705 “WWII German Infantry.” Specifically, the figure comes from the later version of this set. This set was also released by Heller as 79605 “German Infantry”

The box includes 48 figures in 15 poses.

Figure Characteristics:

Paratroops: Height (measured from sole of foot to eyes): 20mm.
Infantry: Height (measured from sole of foot to eyes): 19mm.
Both sets: Body Build (from 5 categories): C (Average).

Availability and Cost:

Set A01705 (Infantry) is currently in production at Airfix. New boxes can be purchased directly on the manufacturer’s website at a cost of £4.69.

Set A01753 (Paratroops) is not currently being produced by Airfix. While it is easy to find second hand boxes on the web, they are priced much higher than current production, due to the scarcity.

WarModelling German Paratroops Part 2

These images present the rest of the poses in the sample set provided by WarModelling (formerly Fantassin Miniatures). Click on the images for larger versions.

The poses are all from the sets titled “German Fallschirmjägers (CRETE)” which contains 22 different figures, plus a small mortar. This set retails on the manufacturer’s site for 19.50EUR.

The WarModelling World War II range includes

The figures cover a variety of nationalities – Australian, British, Finnish, French, German, Japanese, Polish, Russian, and American.

WarModelling German Paratroops, Part 1

WarModelling have kindly provided a sample set from their World War Two range. The company was previously known as Fantassin Miniatures, and their 20mm Second World War figures are quite well regarded.

WarModelling sells their figures in a variety of different sized packs, including box sets, such as the one illustrated in the top image. Each box set includes a number of soldiers in individual poses. The set illustrated here is titled “German Fallschirmjägers (CRETE)” and contains 22 different figures, plus a small mortar.

The lower images provide better shots of the models, including some of the support weapons included in the set. (Click on the images for larger versions). I will be posting shots of the rest of the figures, and comparing them to appropriate plastic ranges, in days to come.
