Lancer Miniatures, 20mm SYW and WWI

Lancer Miniatures seems to be a new undertaking with a couple of interesting metal ranges. As far as I can tell the firm just started producing this year. The company is based in the UK, and the website is here:

http://lancerminiatures.com/

In terms of figures, Lancer has two ranges: one covering the Seven Years War, and the other dealing with the Great War.

The Seven Years War range currently comprises 6 British foot poses, and 31 French poses (both foot and mounted). There is also a tab for Hanoverian figures, but it is currently empty. The image above comes from the website and shows the following French SYW miniature:

SYWF18 “Mounted Staff officer holding hat and giving orders.”

As for the First World War, Lancer offers almost 100 different figures, covering British, French, German and Portuguese armies on the Western Front.

Foot figures are sold for £0.60 each, while mounted figures while mounted troops go for £1.30. There are also some discount offers available in both ranges.

Beside the figures, Lancer also sells buildings and First World War vehicles in 20mm scale.

News: Frontline purchases IT Miniatures

Earlier this month, Frontline Wargaming announced the completion of a deal to purchase IT Miniatures from the former owners. The IT brand includes a number of 20mm metal ranges for the first part of the twentieth century. They are:

Western Front
East Africa (WWI)
Middle East (WWI)
Russian Civil War

In addition to figures, IT offers terrain pieces (notably a trenchworks system), artillery and vehicles.

These figures and accessories will complement Frontline’s existing range of 20mm resin terrain and accessories.

Although there will be a period of adjustment, Frontline promises to be able to fulfill IT orders in the very near future.

UPDATE: As of June 29, Tim at Frontline tells us that they can now accept mail orders for any item in the catalogue. Show stocks may still take a while before they are completely comprehensive. They have also made a few changes to the website to better reflect the offerings.

New Mexican Punitive Expedition figures from Jacklex

In 1916, General John “Black Jack” Pershing led an American punitive expedition into Mexico, following Pancho Villa’s attack on a town in New Mexico. Spencer Smith Miniatures now allows gamers to reproduce the drama of that campaign with a new line of 20mm figures under the Jacklex brand.

These miniatures have been sculpted by Jack Alexander, the founder of the Jacklex range. Click on the pictures for a larger version.

Peter Johnstone of Spencer Smith points out that supplementary figures can be taken from the Boer War range to represent more Americans. In addition he is exploring other ways of extending the Jacklex range.

The figures are not yet listed on the Spence Smith website, but can be ordered by email. The full list of figures is shown below.

Outland Games Update

After my last post on Outland, I have been able to correspond with Tom Dye of GFI, the distributor for Outland. Tom has confirmed that the Outland ranges did start out as the Battalionfeuer range. Chris von Fahnnenstock purchased the ranges several years ago, and has expanded them.

Chris is currently on active duty in the US Army, and so doesn’t have time to do his own moulding, casting, or order fulfillment. He has outsourced those tasks to GFI.

Tom tells me that he has remoulded the World War One in East Africa range, and worked on the additions to the SYW range, as well as some artillery pieces.

The pictures that I posted earlier are not yet in production, but do provide a good example of what is coming down the pipe. Tom expects to have 20mm Turks on hand soon, which have been sculpted by the same designer.

I hope to have more information on Outland and GFI releases as they come out. In the meantime, if you are thinking of picking up some 20mm figures for one of these conflicts, take a look at what Outland offers. It would be nice to support Chris as he serves his country.

Ian Kay at Irregular miniatures tells the Plastic Pelisse that he is adding a number of French figures to the company’s 20mm First World War and Second World War ranges today. Given the recent explosion in plastic WWI sets, and the steady growth in early WWII, this is timely news.

For World War One, the new additions are all portrayed in late war gear. They include:

NWF14 Late infantry with rifle grenade
NWF15 Late infantry with chaucaut
NWF16 Late assault infantry throwing grenade
NWF17 Late assault infantry/pioneer with grenade bag, rifle and wire clippers

NWF19 Late infantry bugler
NWF20 Late infantry officer
NWF21 Late cavalry with sword & carbine
NWF22 75mm field gun & 4 late crew
NWF23 37mm anti-tank gun & 2 late crew
NWF24 Mortar & 2 late crew

For the Second World War, the new sculpts are:

N97 French infantry advancing
N98 French infantry standing firing
N99 French infantry with LMG
N100 French HMG & 2 crew
N101 French mortar & 2 crew
N102 French bugler
N103 French officer
N104 French cavalry
N105 75mm field gun & 4 crew

The figures can be ordered from the company’s website: http://www.irregularminiatures.co.uk/

Ian hopes to have pictures of the new figures up in the next few days.
